As what Mr Eric Foo had mentioned, it is easy to learn about the marine world, because information are all over the internet. But what we have yet to see is the need to preserve these marine lives. What we have to realise is that people are sacrificing the habitats of marine lives for city development, for commercial purposes. It is indeed sad to see people not having that basic awareness. It is indeed sad to see people using the ocean as a form of commercialisation, without even sparing a thought for the future.

Marine conservation. It is something that all of us can play a part in. It does not affect us now, it may appear to be something that we are over-worried in. But the truth is it will affect us one day in the future, and it will be too late to change everything. So now, when we are given the time and opportunity to change, each and everyone of us have to do something to the marine world, in exchange for all their contributions to the development of mankind.

The marine world is a world full of mysteries. It is impossible for us to discover each and every species of animals and plants underwater and if the world continues to take them for granted and pollution persists. Before we even knew, rare species are already facing extinction deep down the sea.
That day I was wondering: what if in this world, there is no marine lives? I'm thinking: then this place is not for human.

Lets see what these marine lives have done for us:

The Coral Reefs:

  • They provide the home for 25% of all marine species.
  • They provide ingredients for the cures of many diseases and illnesses. For example, Secosteroids, an enzyme used by corals to protect themselves from disease, is used to treat asthma, arthritis and other inflammatory disorders.

The Marine Plants:

  • They absorb the carbon dioxide in the ocean to produce oxygen in exchange.
  • They help to trap the green house gases such as methane that is building up in the seabed.
  • In short, they are keeping the Earth from getting warmer.
  • Without these marine plants, global warming will become the world's greatest problem.

Fishes:

  • Fishes can be considered as a primary source of protein for billions of people on earth.
  • They helps to maintain a balance in the ecosystem of the ocean.
  • Without fishes, the entire running marine ecosystem will be brought down to a halt, as millions of other marine lives will be starving to death.
Other marine animals:

Sharks:

  • Sharks may seem menacing in movies, but they play a vital part in the ocean. Without sharks, wastes in the ocean will continue to build up. They act as filter feeders that consume large quantities of zoo-plankton, such as cope-pods and krill, keeping the ocean water clean and easier to be filtered for consumption.
  • Interesting, sharks have extremely strong immune systems which give hopes to researchers to derive a new cure for deadly diseases.
  • Sharks are inspirations for mankind. A lot of inventions are made because of them and we, being the benefited, should protect them.
